Jamaica’s Tessanne Chin auditions for The Voice

Jamaica’s Tessanne Chin recently announced to her fans that she auditioned for Season Five of NBC’s reality singing competition, The Voice.

The concept of the series, according to Wikipedia, is to find new singing talent drawn from public auditions. The winner is determined by viewers by voting through telephone, Internet, SMS text, and iTunes Store purchases of artists’ performances; they receive US$100,000 and a record deal with Universal Music Group.

Tessanne, first came on the music scene in 2006 with her hit song, ‘Hideaway’. She later followed that with her first album ‘In Between Words’ in 2011.

According to her bio on her official Facebook page, “Tessanne’s sultry fusion of dancehall and reggae with edgy rock riffs mixed with the honest, heart felt and conscious lyrics she pens herself create a musical style that is uniquely her own.”

Tessanne has already opened on stage for such musical greats as Patti Labelle, Gladys Knight, Peabo Bryson and Roberta Flack., Atlantic Star, Boyz 2 men, Keyshia Cole Damian Marley, Ky-Mani Marley, Air Supply, Mary J Blige and Neyo. Creatively, she draws on the strengths of a diverse group of musicians including Skunk Anansie, Pat Benatar, Diana King, Celine Dion, Aretha Franklin, Mahalia Jackson, Bob Marley, Barbara Streisand and many more.

She is quoted as saying, “There’s no Limit for me, and no limit I’m willing to put on myself where doing what I love is concerned. I was born to do what I am doing now, and just the fact that I’m able to be having a career in music and doing what I love everyday, and reaching the ears and hearts of people is for me in a sense. Success and yes… a dream come true.

According to The Gleaner, a representative from Tessanne’s camp said she will appear on the September 23 episode but they were unable to divulge any more information.

I can’t wait to see her, I have a feeling those judges are going to be very impressed by what they hear.

In the meantime, take a look at some of her music videos she has done in the past
