I’ve always wanted to do a list like this. I originally wanted to do a top 100 but for now here is my top 40. I hope you rediscover a song that you liked or discover an artist or song. Let me know what you think of my list.
40. Lady Gaga – ‘Applause’
After her first album, I haven’t really enjoyed her music but this song made me a fan again.

39. Tech N9ne – ‘Fragile’
Tech N9ne is an artist that can hit you deep with his lyrics and he got some great help from Kendrick Lamar, ¡MAYDAY! and Kendall Morgan.

38. Tessanne Chin – ‘Anything’s Possible’
This beautiful song came out in October before Tessanne was crowned the winner of The Voice. I thought it was fitting given that she was living her dream being on the competition and the fact that she won showed that anything is really possible.

37. Algebra Blesset – ‘Nobody but You’
A lovely groovy R&B song that many women immediately connected to including myself.

36. Chronixx – ‘Somewhere’
Got the opportunity to see this man perform live in Trinidad last year. I credit him for bringing back conscious music and I am looking forward to hearing what he brings in 2014.

35. Chrisette Michele – ‘A Couple of Forevers’
This girl’s voice is something else. It takes me back to the R&B I grew up hearing when I was a child. A Couple of Forevers is a beautiful song.

34. Elle Varner – ‘Not Tonight’
This was one of those songs, that stayed on repeat for a few hours for a few days. I just love how she delivers it, you can imagine her really being in that situation as she sings. Absolutely on point. Well done Elle.

33. Glenn Lewis – ‘Cant Say Love’
I honestly think this year was a really good one for R&B especially when you listen to songs like Can’t Say Love from Glenn.

Mario’s songs in the past haven’t really impressed me much but THIS one did.

31. Max Marshall – ‘Pressure’
Great Pop track that I think more people need to hear, the girl is talented.

This song had to be on this list. It’s a really fun track that I enjoy singing along to.

29. Toyboy & Robin – ‘Jaded’
Definitely one of my favourite EDM tracks this year, everytime you hear it, you just can’t help but dance.

28. Betty Who – ‘Somebody Loves You’
After watching a video of a guy proposing to his boyfriend to this song, I immediately fell in love with it. It’s a fun love song.

27. F_Eu ft_ Nyanda – ‘Cool & Deadly’
These three make a great team, two South African DJs and a Jamaican artist created a song that is one of my favourite dance tracks for 2013.

26. Timaya – ‘Shake Your Bum Bum’
When I first heard this song, I thought this guy was from my island – Trinidad and Tobago, because it sounds like a Soca track but Timaya is not even from the Caribbean, he’s a Nigerian artist who, with this song, has developed a HUGE Caribbean fan base.

25. Tessanne Chin – ‘Bridge Over Troubled Waters’
If you have read my previous posts about this woman, you would know that I am a HUGE fan, have always been so you would see her fantastic renditions on The Voice making it on this list a few times.

24. Denyque – ‘Make Me Believe You’
It has been a while since a female dancehall artist has impressed me but Denyque has with this track. Looking forward to hearing what she brings this year.

23. Tessanne Chin – ‘Many Rivers To Cross’
I’ll be honest, I never heard this Jimmy Cliff track before Tessanne sang it, but she sang it with so much grace and passion, you could not help but fall in love with the song.

22. Ariana Grande – ‘Right There’
When I first heard this song, I thought it was Mariah Carey because the notes this girl was making, you only heard Mariah make them so when I looked for the video and saw it was this Nickelodeon star, I could not believe it. The girl can SANG.

21. Tessanne Chin and Adam Levine – ‘Let It Be’
This was a very beautiful performance of this Beatles hit. My favourite part? When they broke it down with a reggae vibe. BTW this song is number 76 on the Billboard Top 100.
